It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you in Split for the „International Symposium on the Occasion of 100 Year Anniversary of Abraham Flexner Report - Scientific Approach to Medical Education".
For this Symposium we have invited Croatian and regional medical educators, and a select group of international experts known for their contributions to the field. Even though we are a relatively small country through this Symposium we wanted to give homage to Abraham Flexner and give our modest contribution to the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of his seminal report on medical education. We are sure that you will all welcome the idea of organizing this Symposium, which we think should be of importance to all of us involved in medical education. At the same time we hope that the Symposium will be of interest to medical students, educators in other Faculties and even to administrators and politicians who are providing the funds for our educational activities.
In convening this Symposium we hoped to remind you about that Dr. Flexner, but also to show that his ideas and ideal are still alive and serve as an inspiration to medical educators worldwide. By discussing the advances in medical education we will try to outline the continuity of the international effort since Dr. Flexner's report but at the same time also show that the field is full of new ideas and that new approaches are being developed to stimulate teaching and promote the advances of medicine. There are still many challenges but we hope that meeting like this Symposium will help us all overcome those difficulties and provide new opportunities for better collaboration between geographically distant institutions.
The participation of speakers from abroad and Croatia, their experience and knowledge, and our determination to improve the level of education, has allowed us to realize Symposium. I would like to express my sincere thanks to all invited speakers, for their contribution and enthusiastic vision, while helping us in this project. I would like to express my gratitude to our teacher and friend prof. Ivan Damjanov, who helped us with his ideas in organizing this Symposium.
Detailed information's about the Symposium, including electronic registration are available on official web siteflexner.mefst.hr.
Finally, I wish you a fruitful Symposium and an enjoyable stay in our beautiful old town.
